The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) is a national not-for-profit federation of nine provincial landscape and horticulture associations representing over 4,000+ members. Comprised of thousands of locally owned companies that grow, sell, design, install, and maintain plants and other landscape features, our members represent over $2.2 billion at the farm gate and over $14 billion in economic impact in Canada.

Over 100 Years of History.

Growing a stronger green industry in Canada since 1922

1922

Formation of the Association

The Eastern Canada Nurserymen's Association is established, with members primarily from Quebec and Ontario.

1964

Regional Expansion

Seven regional nursery associations are formed as the industry grows.

1972

Official Registration

The Canadian Nursery Trades Association (CNTA) is officially registered.

1973

CNTA Office Established

The first CNTA office is set up in Ottawa.

1973

Rebranding as Landscape/ Paysage Canada

CNTA adopts the name Landscape/Paysage Canada for bilingual clarity and better industry representation.

1978

Relocation to Mississauga

CNTA moves its headquarters to the Landscape Ontario office in Mississauga, Ontario.

1998

Becoming CNLA

CNTA is officially renamed the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) to better reflect its members.

2019

Laying the Foundations

CNLA acquires Communities in Bloom (CiB) (founded in 1995), expanding its mission to educate the public and municipalities about the power of horticulture and the importance of environmental stewardship.

The Green Cities Foundation was formed as a Canadian Private Charitable Foundation in 2018 and set out to build its first urban green space in 2019.

2020

Canada Grows Its Own

In January 2020, the CNLA introduced the Landscape Horticulture Certification Program (LHCP), a fully Canadian-owned and managed initiative. This program was developed to promote professionalism and uphold standards in nursery and landscape horticulture operations across Canada.

2022

100-Year Celebration

CNLA celebrates 100 years of horticulture at it's Summer Board meetings, and NALE Gala in Ottawa, Ontario.

Commodity Groups

At its core, the CNLA is comprised of three commodity groups,
each representing member businesses at the national level.
Landscape Canada
A CNLA commodity group with a mandate to advance initiatives specifically tailored to the landscape sector. Through CNLA, Landscape Canada represents Canadian member businesses within the European Landscape Contractors Association (ELCA).
Growers Canada
A CNLA commodity group representing nursery growers across the country. Through CNLA, Growers Canada engages internationally as a member of the International Horticultural Producers Association (AIPH).
Garden Centres Canada
A CNLA commodity group representing retail garden centres and nurseries nationwide. Through CNLA, Garden Centres Canada participates in the International Garden Centre Association (IGCA).
